I flew to the SD airport and was met by a shuttle driver with 5 women. We all pretty much remained together throughout our stay. It was a bit like summer camp.
We arrived to the hotel which was very nice and I am a bit of hotel snob! Meals were provided in the dining area such as chicken broth, juices, water and Popsicles. For guests traveling with you, they do have an extensive menu and my mother was very happy with her food choices.
Shuttles would pick us up to take us to any pre-op appts, post op, etc. Surgery day was nerve wrecking but all went well. Surgery seemed to last all but 30 minutes. I was placed in a room with my group of girls and we slept there for the evening. The following day we returned to recover In the luxury of our hotel room where we were waited on by the most wonderful staff. Doctors, nurses, aides were always available. The ONLY bad thing f was the post op test to check for leaks. I still remember the taste of that ink. Ugh! You can suck on a candy afterward and it helps!
Drinking and eating was very hard for me at first. I didn't know if it would ever get better but it did. 2 years later, I can eat anything but ice cream (it makes me sick for some reason) but I can only eat in small portions. I've never gained a pound in 2 years, went from shopping at Lane Bryant to shopping for size 8 petites. I am a 140 pounds, healthy, active and wouldn't change a thing for the world. Go do it! Your life with change!
