We were treated with respect even though there was a tremendous language barrier. The nurses amazed me considering I also am one. I was disappointed that the surgeon did not come talk to us "after the surgery", just another physician did whom I don't recall meeting before. The hotel staff also were amazing.
This private facility truly needs to upgrade their procedures. When I awoke in the recovery to see it was one a 2 bay recovery and the staff were eating in the area. While another staff member walked through with a bag.. of lord knows what was a bit dismaying. The Recovery room should've been a "CLEAN" area not coats on one side of a half wall, Lunch kits sitting on that half wall and the garbage being marched through from a dirty side to a disposal area in what should be a clean area.
The nurses in the hospital did rounds, but I was amazed there was no way to call them such as a call bell if there was an emergency. You would have to shout out or go find someone down at the end of the hall.
NOW, if I was to do it again, I think I would research the site a bit better as I KNOW Mexico has better facilities that offer this procedure. Would I recommend this to others, yes, why? Because it is life changing and why wait for cormorbidities before fixing the problem in your life. I've already had a couple people ask me where I went and what I thought and honestly, I struggle a bit as this facility is behind the times. If they want to offer a private service, they need to look at what other facilities out of Mexico do in order to offer service to where the Americans Pay for service and Canadians have a high expectation of care.
I also wound up with a post-op infection which slowed my recovery time. I wound up on extra antibiotics etc. That was disappointing and I know it is a risk but sadly a disappointing one. Has it been successful, yes it has. I am eating way less than I did, I feel full (which I forget the last time I felt that). I'm still struggling with slowly eating as being a nurse you tend to eat on the run. I am feeling better still don't have all the energy I wish I had but I know that will come.
