I had my surgery in Tiijuana, Mexico with Dr. Almanza at Jerusalem Hospital on March 1, 2013. To this date I have lost 29 pounds. I honestly thought that the weight would fall off a LOT faster but I do not have any regrets with the decision that I made. The staff, hospital and hotel accommodations all exceeded my expectations. Immediately after the surgery I was regretting my decision, the gas pain I had from the surgery was nearly unbearable. The GasX strips did not help me any.... I noticed that the patients that were on the liquid pre-op diet for longer periods DID not encounter the gas pain as those of us that were on the liquid diet for 5 days. My surgery was a breeze and I did not have any complications, but none the less the immediate days following were miserable, I completely regretted it and wondered what I had done. I was so ready to get out of Mexico and back in my own home. Looking back I think this was all NORMAL. Again NOW, I have no regrets and feel that this was the best decision I have made. Learning how to eat again has been a challenge, I have wasted lots of money on food either NOT being able to eat it or over indulging and throwing it up. I keep telling myself, I did not develop the bad habits over night so I am not going to develop good ones over night either. This is truly a life changing and altering process. I have been bad and do not follow a structured diet like I should. To this date, I eat whatever I want---but in WAY smaller quantities. I am sure If I watched what I ate---I would drop the weight faster. I have no regrets and would recommend this process, doctor, hospital etc to anyone that is considering Gastric Sleeve Surgery.
