My cousin told me about this. I was so skeptical at first because you always hear horror stories about botched surgeries in Mexico. But I did my research on Dr. Almanza and couldn't find any reason not to do it. Me, my cousin, and another friend all scheduled our surgeries the same day to give us peace of mind. We arrived at Grand View hospital on April 19th for our pre-op lab work and we were actually asked if we would like the surgery that day. We agreed since it would help get the anxiety over with. The staff starting with the shuttle driver to the financial advisor to the nurses to Dr Almanza himself were all so nice and professional! They prepped the 3 of us for surgery and one by one we went back. The surgery is quick the longest part was coming out of anesthesia. And as soon as you are able, they want you up and walking to help move the gas out of your body. Each of our gas pains varied, I think I had the least amount of gas pains. We stayed the first night in the hospital and then we were discharged to the hotel for two days. There were nurses at the hotel to care for you until your drain and IV come out. All the nurses were very helpful and friendly and always available when we needed them.
I used to have the lap band until September 2017 when it slipped and had to be removed. I went from 447 to 159. After the band was removed, I immediately gained 100 lbs which is why I chose this surgery. I started the preop diet at 263 lbs by surgery day I was 249 lbs. Now, less than a month after surgery I am 229 lbs.
For anyone considering this I highly recommend it!
