I had struggled with a band that was no longer effective due to an enlargement of the esophagus. So in April 2012, I went to Jerusalem Hospital and got the band removed and sleeved. Lost steadily weight after that, however, the pouch enlarged, not uncommon due to scar tissues left over from wearing the band for close to 10 years. The option was a re-sleeve with duodenal switch or simply a re-sleeve. I chose a re-sleeve and had Dr Almanza perform it trusting him again particularly since after the first surgery a top New York based bariatric surgeon told me the first operation could not have been done better. The same top surgeon suggested the re-sleeve when I regain weight however it would have taken months of insurance approval in New York, thus my option to get it done at Jerusalem Hospital, and so far so good, I feel fine and have dropped 7 pounds 5 days post-surgery. The most important thing is to follow the instructions closely and I am doing just that. Hopefully, this time is the right one, but I foresee no problem as I don't have that much to loose having dropped a net 35 pounds the first time around from loss to regain, all I need is may be the same amount or 40 more pounds to go to 185 pounds which would be perfect at my 5' 11.5 feet height.
The recovery was great and I eventually intend to re-visit Hotel Ticuan where they have a great breakfast for 50 pesos, may be when I return there for some dental work at Jerusalem Hospital as had I known about their great dental services I could have saved myself quite some money on my last implant but will take advantage for the one I currently need done.
Dr Almanza is competent, he cares and he has an unmatched record when one takes into consideration his experience. A hospital's record improves at 100 plus surgeries, Dr Almanza does that number in a month! For those of you who are afraid of the going under process, be re-assured as Dr. Guzman the cardiologist that examines you will
not let you have the surgery unless he has clearly assessed that your cardiovascular condition can take it and he too has great experience and great manners!
As to Dr Andres Betancourt, he has a great sense of humor and he does truly care about all the patients ... Overall a great experience!
