I flew to San Diego, got picked up in a van, drove down to Tijuana, and checked in to a hotel where they staged us to be ready for surgery the next morning. Broth that night in the restaurant.
At 6:00AM the next morning we met in the lobby, drove us 40 minutes away to the hospital where they prepped us, wrapped our legs to prevent blood clots, collected remaining money due, and did blood work (my blood work didn't go so well, hit a nerve).
There were 5 in our group that morning. They have 2 surgery rooms, and Dr. Almanza, another doctor, and one assistant, rotate between rooms as they worked on us. Surgery took about 35 to 45 minutes. The last thing I remember before I went out was them pulling the HD screen close to me so they could work on me.
They woke me up, put me in a room to recover for a day. I walked as often as I could to flush fluids out of me. I threw up every 4 hours, which was common. But that allowed me to go back to sleep. (There was practically nothing to throw up).
They took us back to the hotel where a wonderful nursing staff continued to change out fluids, give meds for pain and nausea. It was here where I fell in love with popsicles. Our group became very close, and I hope I always stay in touch with them. Wonderful people, wonderful doctors, wonderful staff of nurses, etc.
I had my father come with me, and I'm glad I did. He could get up and open the door when I was too sick to.
My highest weight was 283 a week before surgery. On the day of surgery I was 273. As of this moment, I'm 248, which is 15 days after surgery. Food seems to be taking on a new meaning. I'm still healing physically in my ways, but I have no regrets.
