After surgery, I am not exaggerating when I say I had over 10 nurses who cared for me! I felt like Beyonce! I was the only patient, with others coming in later in the week. I never wanted for anything, and we all seemed to get by with the three little phrases, por favor, el bano, and GRACIAS! :). The nurses spoke much better English than I did Spanish. These nurses cared for me like I was family. When the cleaning lady came in and I thanked her, she said that whatever I wanted, to let her know, she was there for me. When the nice lady brought me ice chips and I thanked her, she also said that anything I wanted to please let her know, she was there to make me happy. Let me tell you, the service and care in this clinic is second to none.
As I walked the halls, the nurses kept me company. As I was hot, they let me keep the room at a frigid 61 degrees and didn't worry about their discomfort. As I was given medicine and checked on, they shared pictures of their families and wanted to know about mine. They were genuine friends and family during a vulnerable time.
Angel was a great driver back the airport, making sure to take the route with less turns to help with nausea. He helped me get the medications I would need, and made sure the airport curbside checkin was used so I didn't lift anything. Dulce continues to check in on me and make sure I have all the information I need.
There are bigger surgical centers. There are slightly less expensive centers. But I am convinced the quiet, small, and personal surgical center was the best experience ever. Not only was the Dr and Nurse staff incredible, I was made to feel like a rockstar. For that, I am very thankful.
It has been two weeks since surgery and I have lost 20 lbs. Post surgery, I was able to get up and going quickly, as I was only given pain medication that didn't have narcotics. No wooziness, just pain relief. While I started feeling "hungry" days 5-7, I did research and watched videos and learned, I wasn't hungry. This was the time my pouch would be the most swollen, and it was the swelling I was feeling. This helped a ton to stay on track. Also, my external wounds serve as a visual reminder that if I am still healing on the outside than I am still healing on the inside. Watching those wounds heal has also helped me be good to my insides and not try and break any rules.
If you have a choice, I highly recommend Dr. Jose Alberto Carlos Rivas and his incredible team in Mexico.
