My sister discovered the link for Weightlossagents and told me what the cost would be and that we could finance. I'm SO GLAD that she did. From the first moment I felt like they knew what all the steps would be. I was put in touch with a finance company, the approval came quickly. I was given a surgery date and the instruction for what I would need to do, what I should do for a pre-op diet and how to keep in touch.
We flew into San Diego, called the phone # for the pick up, met the others who were to be picked up at the same time. Our driver was nice, the ride wasn't long and the hotel was lovely.
The next day was surgery, overnight stay at hospital with nursing staff assigned to just those of us there for the surgery- there were 9 of us.
The following day we returned to lovely hotel, where there is nursing staff 24/7 available in one of the nearby hotel rooms. They checked on us, changed out I.V.'s, monitored out drainage tubes. We also saw another doctor who checked our stomachs for any signs of reactions or problems. We were provided with all food/liquids from the moment we checked in on the 1st day-though I will admit, it didn't amount to much since our newly tiny stomachs couldn't handle much at all. Bottled water, jello, apple juice...pretty much it. Patients are encourage to walk around as much as possible, even to walking to nearby stores in the neighborhood.
All the staff in the hospital and hotel were very helpful and are obviously cognizant that we had recently had surgery. And interestingly-I have never seen so many people tidying/cleaning/maintaining the property as I did in this hotel. It was re-assuring.
Next day we did 2 "leak" tests. One with a tasteless blue liquid. and the other with a wretched, horrible, yucky contrast liquid-this test was done at a radiology clinic-to which we were driven at no charge.
Most people stay over night again, and leave the following morning, but our travel plans were limited by flight availability so we were driven across the border that afternoon. All done.
I have been contacted multiple times for a "check in" Just to make sure everything was going well. And it is. There are surprising number of websites/apps dedicated to helping people find the foods to eat post bariatric surgery. I started at 298 lbs (before pre-op) and 2 months later (one month post-surgery) I am currently 254 lbs. I am so happy I made the decision to do this-and only wish I had decided long ago.
This whole process was professional and really couldn't have gone any better than it did.
