I told few people of my decision to travel to Tijuana for the gastric sleeve because I knew most would try to talk me out of it. My ambivalence and fear were short-lived. Upon arrival I met a great bunch of women and one man at the San Diego Airport, where we were transported (right on time) to the facility in Tijuana for pre-ops, then to the nearby hotel. The staff was SO friendly and personal, and there was absolutely no language barrier. The surgery was uneventful, and the subsequent monitoring by staff nurses (who stay at the hotel) was as professional as I have experienced in the top Boston hospitals. I am 5 ft tall and weighed in at 207 on 12/5/2017. I was a size 18. 6 months later, (unfortunately I am still 5 feet tall), I am down to 152, and am a size 10. It's a very safe weight loss, especially if you divide it up weekly. It's VERY important that prospective patients do the research, read the testimonials, follow the pre-op dietary instructions to the word, and get used to drinking a lot of water! I think, largely due to my age (60), that I lost more hair than the other 10 in my group. It's never too late to take your biotin. The hair loss percentage listed on most sites is curious, because 90% of my group had medium to substantial hair loss. Just be prepared. Good news is that it grows back, but it's definitely transforming. I had difficulty drinking all the mandatory water, at times becoming nauseous. I found that hot herbal teas or non-calorie flavored water additives helped. Be assured, you will feel better almost immediately. It has been life-changing for me, regretting only that I hadn't done it sooner. I am in contact with all my fellow patients. -
It's SO important to have this support group to share questions and recommendations on food intake and other conditions that we all share. I cannot find any fault with this procedure at all, it was affordable, most of all, and certainly cheaper than spending countless dollars on diet foods, and commercial diet businesses. Best of luck to all who decide to go forward and bring happiness back into their lives.
