I have to admit I was very nervous about the surgery and also about having the procedure out of the country. I am now 6 days post op and doing very well. While there were many differences between what we would be used to in the US, everything was clean, functional and the staff along the process could not have been any nicer. There is a slight language barrier if you are not a Spanish speaker but most speak enough English that I was quite comfortable understanding all directions or communication.

The hospital staff was very nice also. Most have at least some English which is comforting. Vanessa and Stephanie took care of me most of the time at the hospital. They are both very sweet and attentive. Vanessa has the brightest happy smile which seems to bring healing powers of its own. The only problem with the hotel for me was the noise, mostly coming from outside. I didn't sleep very well because of that.

I did also want to mention that the staff at the hotel is very helpful also. Roberto who picked us up is absolutely wonderful. He drove us back and forth several times and in a city of 2.5 million, it can't be easy to drive carefully so as not to bump patients but somehow he does it. Oscar took us shopping one day and to the airport on the day we left. He's an awesome guy also. If you want to know anything at all, see Lorenzo at the hotel, he knows everything about the area and is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. The nursing staff at the hostel was very attentive, available, positive and friendly. Sergio took care of most of my iv changes and drainage pump removal. He was very professional yet super friendly and understanding. The hotel was clean and the bed was reasonably comfortable. Again the only issue I had was with noise on the last night. there is a bar down the road that was blasting thumping music until at least 3 am. Also a family with about 5 small children were above us and they didn't go to sleep until the music stopped. Didn't leave much time to sleep before we had to get up to meet the van. But all in all, the hotel was a very good experience. It is located close to several pharmacies and places for your guest to eat in the neighborhood. My husband ate most of his meals at the hotel. They don't have a lot of choices but he didn't dislike anything he ordered.

I had a lot of my own doubt through out the process and if I was making the right decision but at this point, it is feeling positive for me.

Best advice I can give is walk, walk, after the procedure and follow every single direction you are given to the letter. Dr Almanza has done this over 16,000 times and those rules are there for a very good reason.
