I contacted Weight Loss Agents in early December. The customer service from WLA was TOP CLASS from beginning to end. They are so easy to reach. You can text at 10:00PM on a Sunday night and get an answer to a question in 2 minutes. Really the best customer service in any industry I have ever experienced. Their bosses should be very proud.
I had a lot of questions and I had a lot of doubts. Mexico? Really? But everything the WLA reps told me was spot on. There wasn't a single surprise!
I brought cash and received the discount as advertised. It was nice because it covered my travel expenses.
I was met at the airport by Oscar. He was on time, and very nice. The trip to the border was along the coast and took about 25 minutes. We spent 5 minutes at the border, and then another 10 minutes to the hospital. (35 minutes total from the airport) I tipped him $5 just for the effort. When you arrive, there is a massive black gate and little spikes on top that gives you a little sketchy vibe, but once in the gate, the facility is as nice if not nicer than most in the USA. Brand new! Beautiful white marble, beautiful ash hand rails, etc. It is a bit odd however because there isn't a lot of activity in the lobby. Very sterile and quiet. We were then met by the nurse, and taken to our room and given jello and water. The rooms are very nice, but I would suggest asking for a room with a view. They are on the 3rd floor. I was placed in 210 and it has no windows. Makes the day go by slow. They do have TVs in all rooms with cable and 3-4 English speaking channels. The beds are brand new, and are adjustable. The bathrooms are very spacious and nice as well.
That evening, we got into our gowns, and then met with the Cardiologist for our bloodwork and EKG. He is an older man that doesn't speak good English, but very nice and quick procedure. We then met with the intake coordinator and got our wrist bands.
The next morning, we go back to the lobby. THIS IS THE STRANGEST PART OF THE ENTIRE TRIP. We were ushered into the lobby again in our gowns. All 6 people. the doctor came out with his two assistant doctors. He explained the procedure, asked some questions, and then took pictures. This was the only time I saw the guy. 5 minutes total. His assistants do all the post op visits. I was a bit disappointed with this aspect. We then go back up to the room and wait. 30 minutes later I was brought down to the second floor for the procedure. The OR is very clean and very nice. Blue and white shapes on the walls, very nice sterile and clean. When we enter the OR, the nurses are there and setting you up. You lie down on a table that looks like a prison death room table with the arms out, but you don't realize it very long. The anesthesiologist (big guy with a goatee) puts a mask on with oxygen and I was out in 3 seconds after the first big breath in.
I woke up in the recovery room, placed in a wheel chair, and then up to the room. I slept for 2-3 more hours and then was asked to get up and walk. This is vital! Bring GAS X STRIPS and WALK A LOT in the small hall way. I really got to know the fellow patients at this juncture because the walking eases the gas buildup. I must admit, at that point I regretted the procedure. I felt a sense of depression because why couldn't I just work out and eat better? I was committed though.
After a day in the hospital we were taken to the hotel. A very nice hotel. They have nurses on duty and take care of you for the next 2 days.
4 days after arriving, we left the hotel for the airport at 6AM even though I had 1:15PM flight. It took 45 minute to get through the border, but they say if we leave later we could miss our flight because it can take 4-5 hours the later you wait. Oscar took us back, and was driving a bit crazy to be honest.
I am back home now and hungry, but I'm sticking to the diet and I look forward to the future.
If you are scared or not sure, just do it. NO REASON to spend 3-4 times the amount of money in the states.
