I admit that I was skeptical at first and thought it was 'cheating'. AT 46 years old, I know myself enough that if I was to do any kind of program, it would fail, I would find a way out. I chose something that didn't have an 'out'.
My experience with Weight loss agents was great right from the start, they were helpful in answering my questions and getting things arranged, even when I changed my surgery date to 2 months sooner than I originally planned for - why wait, I thought.
When I arrived at the San Diego airport and was sitting outside for a van to take me to the hospital, there were doubts. We have all heard the horror stories of things that happen in Tijuana, but as soon as Roberto pulled up in the van and other people started walking towards it, I felt better.
The nurses at the hospital, and then the hotel were fantastic, and funny. One thing I will remember for the rest of my life is to "Never trust a fart". This advice was given to me for after we had our xrays and drinking the nasty liquid that goes with it.
We got to meet Dr. Almanza prior to our surgery, he was very positive and it was comforting to know that he had gone through the procedure himself.
I didn't have a hard time with pain or nausea, I made sure I was up and walking as soon as I could and gas-x strips were a must(Thank you to whomever left that piece of advice on the forum). The key to avoiding a lot of pain is to walk, walk, walk - it really does help.
It was smooth sailing for me during recovery at the hotel and I had no issues on the 5 hour plane ride home.
Since that time there have been ups and downs - for a while I felt like I had lost my best friend(food), but that feeling goes away every time I go down a pant size. I'm still adjusting to how little I can eat. Hunger is not a problem and I am never hangry anymore - while is a service to society. I still want food mentally, but when I go to eat, its for fuel, not for pleasure. Being single, I don't really make meals, but I do make a lot if soup. Getting in enough protein is an issue, my hair has thinned out substantially, and I don't drink nearly as much water as I should.
Its all about adjusting to your new stomach and life style.
I am getting back to the happy person I used to be - I am finding myself again, and finally loving myself instead of beating myself up all the time.
I don't know where I would be if I didn't choose to do this surgery, but I do know I would not be nearly as happy as I am now.
The majority of the people that had surgery at the same time text each other - we have a group text that some days blows up my phone. There have been different experiences post-surgery, but not one of the 6 of us would go back and not have the surgery. My doctor here in Canada is very happy that I am off high blood pressure medication and is thrilled with my weight loss. I have started seeing a dietitian, but would recommend one that is more familiar with the struggles post-surgery.
You are kind of on your own when it comes to care afterwards, which is understandable, since I am in a different country. There are lots of forums out there that talk about the struggles and offer advice on how to deal with things, it just takes time to find what is right for you.
I have told many people about my experience and how great Weight Loss Agents was to deal with.
I would do this all again in a heart beat!
